I. Will. Never. Get. Rid. Of. Physical. Books. 😅 Regardless of how little space we have, I have kept my books. 😆 These little bedside nooks are one of the many reasons we chose this Airstream model! I keep my faves in my book nook and as a bonus they stay there during travel and don’t fall! The rest of my books are stored in the front of the Airstream in a section behind the couch. We are big proponents of leaving your home state at least once. And no, you don’t have to sell it all and live in an RV like we did. We recognize that this may not be feasible for everyone. Here are some reasons why we’re glad we were able to move into an RV: -Increase in cultural awareness. People live differently and being able to learn about their way of life and their experiences has allowed us to find commonality and has grown our empathy. -Increase in education. We’ve learned more about the ecosystem, history, and even business than we ever did stationary. -Increase community. This one was HUGE for us. Our friends and community may be all over the United States but those connections are so much more solid and honest. The Lumineers are right, it’s better to feel pain than nothing at all. While there’s been more joy and discovery than we could have ever imagined with RV life, there’s also been pain, heartache and stress. These are all definitely on the pricier end but we think they are worth every penny! What is an item that you’ve splurged on but has made a big difference in your life? 1. Alpacka Rafts ✨ We LOVE our rafts and get them out every chance we get! We’ve been able to get even deeper into areas with our rafts and we love how compact they are. We highly suggest Alpacka because we have found that their customer service is top-notch! 2. CLIQ chairs ✨ We are going on 4 years with our CLIQ chairs and they are still going strong! We love how comfy they are. Because they are so compact, we surprise people a lot when we show up to gatherings with our little bag! 3. Blackstone Grill ✨ Tanner has loved his Blackstone grill and it’s gotten weekly use since we bought it! 4. Portable solar panel ✨ The portable solar panel we have is the Zamp 180-watt portable solar briefcase. We used this combined with 2 AGM batteries and two 2200 Honda Inverter Generators for two years of boondocking. It was more than enough to get us by and allowed us to gauge how many panels and lithium batteries we needed for a full solar set-up. If you are on the fence about a solar set-up, we highly suggest starting off with a portable panel like this one. We’ve found that when we HAVE to pay to camp, dry camping is the way to go. #1 it’s much cheaper and the dry camping spots are usually quieter. They tend to be a bit more spacious and the views are for the most part sooo good! Scared of dry camping? We were too! Now it’s one of our preferred ways of camping! Dry camping means that you are camping without any water, electric or sewer hookups and are completely self-sufficient. There are many lakes to explore and marvel at when in Banff or Jasper National Park. This is a quaint little lake right off the Icefield Parkway that’s perfect for a day of relaxing! The parking lot is ample and only a short walk to the lake. We brought our paddleboard and spent the afternoon enjoying the mountain views surrounding the turquoise water. If you’re looking for a high-reward, low-effort serene area, we highly recommend Herbert Lake! It was a perfect day! These 3 lakes are STUNNING from the shore but we highly suggest exploring them from the water! We made sure to use our inflatable SUP and/or our inflatable raft to get out and enjoy a different view. There is no shortage of lakes inside Jasper National Park so we chose some of our faves! Lake Edith: This area of Jasper is absolutely breathtaking. Take a stroll around Lake Edith and it’s sister lake nearby - Annette! Pyramid Lake: This lake was GORGEOUS and has the most beautiful backdrop of iconic Pyramid Mountain. Maligne Lake: This is THE lake everyone goes and sees. And for good reason! It is a magical lake. We decided to SUP around and it’s one of our favorite memories. Ps. If you are feeling adventurous and have some extra 💸 there is a 1.5 hr ride boat cruise that takes you down Maligne Lake to Spirit Island. We chose to head to the tea house that was farther away and wow the view was worth it! Drinking tea from a historic and iconic tea house is one of our favorite highlights from our time visiting Banff National Park! The Plain of Six Glaciers Tea House trail is 9.1 miles out & back with an elevation gain of around 1,929 ft. The tea house was built in 1927 and has been privately owned and operated by the same family since 1959.  It’s still in its original form and does not have any electricity! Everything is made off of propane stoves. 👏Even though they can accept credit cards (w/additional $4 charge), cash is the preferred method of payment. Disclaimer! This works for us and we highly suggest NOT doing this if you don’t feel comfortable. I love our Airstream curtains! But after awhile they start to look a little dingy. I took a chance last year and washed them in a washer and was super impressed with the results. I just recently washed them again with the same process and I’m happy to report that all is still well and they look fabulous! Here’s a step-by-step of what we do: • Unbuckle curtain from the wall and unscrew the end cap of the track. • Slide off the curtain from the track. • (🔥Hot tip!) With a sharpie label which curtain panel this is (I added my numbers to the elastic that attaches to the rail clip) and do the same for the others as you remove them. This will help you put them back in the correct order! Trust me, it’s important. 😅 • Add 3-4 curtain panels to the washer. I have only washed them in washers that DO NOT have an agitator, so please be mindful if you do plan on washing them in a washer with an agitator. • Add preferred soap. This view was nothing short of magical. ✨ If you ever get the opportunity to watch sunrise at Moraine Lake, we highly recommend it. Even though in the summertime you will get a crowd, we found that the crowd was very respectful and spoke in low voices the entire time. A calm hush came over the group as the sunlight hit the rugged mountain backdrop. Everyone was moved by the natural beauty before us and it’s a memory we will forever carry. *Please note that entrance regulations to Moraine Lake have been changed this year. ✨ The town of Jasper looks like it’s straight out of a storybook! ✨ This quaint little town is where you’ll go to fuel up for your Jasper National Park adventures. We highly suggest adding these locations to your list: 🍎 Jasper Farmers Market - The fruit comes from BC and it is the FRESHEST most delicious fruit ever. Some of the best fruit we’ve ever had! This farmers market usually runs from June until September on Wednesday mornings. 🥗 The Raven Bistro - We still RAVE about the food we savored here. WOW. This Mediterranean fusion restaurant is the place to visit for those with special dietary needs. We enjoyed the tofu chorizo tostadas with cashew cheese & citrus jicama slaw and the salad niçoise with wild rice-crusted yellowfin tuna steak. Can you say delicious?! Reservations are recommended but we went during lunch and the wait was never too long. ☕️ Sunhouse Cafe - This little Australian-inspired cafe is the go-to place for coffee in Jasper. Great vibe, quality coffee and they even have great food options! Worth the sore back from sleeping in the truck waiting for sunrise. 🌅🥹 Because of its intense popularity, getting to Moraine Lake was a wild experience. We didn’t have shuttle reservations (they were already booked so far in advance) so we did what the rangers recommended….we got up at 1 am to circle the entrance road to see if the guards would allow us in. Because of the limited parking, the road to Lake Moraine is blocked off and only when a parking spot becomes available do they open the entrance to allow for one (or a few cars) to go in. After our 3rd time circling around, we were finally let in. It was well worth it. Definitely worth all the hype and then some. 🥹 NOTE: Starting in 2023 Lake Moraine will now be closed to private vehicles. You will no longer be able to take your vehicle in and you must enter via shuttle (or tours). You ever blink and realize you are in THE moment? The moment that you know for years to come will emerge from the cobwebs of your mind to bring light and joy to the present day? This. This was one of those moments. As we hiked into this remote alpine lake in search of trout we were greeted by lush green forests and a plethora of wildflowers. All leading us to the bluest lake we have ever had the pleasure of laying eyes on. Even though there were no fish (due to the severe impact of whirling disease) we consumed as much of the view as we could before being fully consumed by the mosquitoes. 😆

🙅🏽‍♀️ This was one of those moments when I threw my hands up and said “Nope, I am DONE.” We don’t have those moments often but it seemed like last year was the worst year on the road for us. From outrunning massive hail storms to financial struggles, we were hanging on by a thread. We were already committed to this situation so we just had to keep going. The entrance to this car wash was through a mini-mall with a Starbucks in front. And of course, it was morning so we had to dodge the long line of coffee-needing patrons and those parked. After finagling into the car wash stall I walked out to find that the exit of the car wash was steep and we would have to take it at a deep angle to avoid bottoming out. It was one heck of an experience and we were able to get out but this is just a reminder that the stress of full-time RV living is real.

Our shower is across the hall and not in the same room as the toilet which I actually prefer. STOP! And go check under your RV mattress!!! It’s an area that can grow mold sooo quickly. The mattress can’t breathe so the heat combined with the moisture in the air can cause mold to grow. This gets worse in the winter time! We highly recommend getting a mattress underlay like the Hypervent Aire-flow (which is what we have), the Froli system, or some sort of slats to make sure you are allowing your mattress to breathe. Combined with our 500 AH of Battleborn lithium batteries, we have more than enough for our boondocking needs ❤️ We officially have had our solar system for a year now (installed by @airstream_nuts_and_bolts) and it truly has changed our day to day life. If you’re a full-timer who solely boondocks, we highly recommend a solar system. Because it’s a huge financial investment, it took us 4 years to get our solar system. 👩🏽‍🍳 You know I LOVE to bake!!! Baking in an RV oven can be different, but not impossible!!! Here’s what we’ve found that makes baking in an RV easy: First thing you’ll want to add is an oven thermometer. This will give you an accurate inside temperature. Trust us, the temperature on the oven knob is definitely just an approximation. Now this is the game changer! Adding an Airbake sheet (link in bio) to the bottom rack helps disperse the heat within the oven. This allows everything to bake evenly throughout! Others have used a pizza stone or a ceramic tile, which work just as well, but we prefer the Airbake sheet because it’s lightweight and we don’t have to worry about it breaking. This gets people HEATED. Which is understandable because it’s a major safety concern. With our solar upgrades and our DC to DC charger, thankfully we can still run our fridge solely on electric when towing. To be honest, our food taste so much better than eating out 💁🏽‍♀️ Definitely one of our favorite things to make is our cassava tortillas! Our recipe below is adapted from @abigaileholistic recipe 🥰 Cassava Tortillas Small batch: 12 tortillas depending on size 3/4C Cassava Flour 1/4C Arrowroot powder 3T Coconut oil melted 1/4 tsp sea salt 1/3C cold water or more as needed Mix all ingredients together in a bowl. Roll into small balls and press out between 2 sheets of parchment paper. Place on a hot skillet or Blackstone grill for 1-2 minutes on each side. We are more than just our Airstream❤️ Theodore Roosevelt is in North Dakota and is split into 3 units: the North Unit, South Unit and the Elkhart Ranch Unit. We were able to explore 2/3 units during our visit and here are some of our faves. North Unit: Comprised of a 14 mile (one-way) Scenic drive we stopped at.. River Bend Overlook - beautiful view of the Little Missouri River from a 1930s CCC built shelter Cannonball Concretions - a MUST-STOP to see large perfectly spherical “pearls” made from the minerals in the butte. South Unit: Beginning from the town of Medora, this unit is the most popular. It is comprised of a 48 mile scenic drive and we stopped at… Boicourt Overlook - gorgeous views of the badlands and this one of the areas we saw the famous feral horses Coal Vein Nature Trail - easy and scenic trail with views of wildflowers Old East Entrance - short trail through a prairie dog town that leads to the original gateway into the park Wind Canyon Trail - short hike alongside the wind-sculpted canyon overlooking the Little Missouri River This is a great park, especially if you want to see bison without the Yellowstone crowds! RV life means being flexible and learning as you go! These are examples of a few mistakes first time RVers tend to make. 1. 🫣Knowing the height of your rig. This is so important! Make sure to include the height of air conditioner units, antennas, etc. You’ll want to know for certain the height of your rig before you have a freak out moment with a low clearance bridge. 😬 2. 🤗Bringing too much stuff. I mean, I feel like we are all guilty of this 😂 More stuff = more weight = worse gas mileage. This is an evolving process though and you’ll quickly learn what is needed and what is not. 3. 👨🏼‍🔧Ignoring RV maintenance. This is a huge no no. It’s important to stay on top of maintenance to avoid costly and time sucking repairs. The great thing about the Badlands is there a scenic loop road that goes through the park so it makes it easy to see all the good stuff in one day! If you are staying in Wall or Nomad View start at the Pinnacles Entrance Station. 1. Stop at the Pinnacles Overlook and marvel at the the formations! 2. Yellow Mounds overlook is a must stop to see some beautiful colors! 3. Conata Basin Overlook features beautiful striations. 4. White River Valley Overlook was one of my favorites. It really has the “Badlands” feel all in one view. 5. Fossil Exhibit Trail which features fossil replicas and a boardwalk. Would be great for kids. 6. To see real fossils, stop by the Ben Reifel Visitor Center and chat with the paleontologists working! 7. Hike the Notch Trail. This is the number one trail in the Badlands. It’s a 1.5 mile roundtrip hike that features a wooden ladder. Have you visited this park? This place is no secret. I feel like every first time RVer hopes to camp at Nomad View. After 5 years of traveling in our Airstream, we finally made it to the Badlands and had the chance to camp here. We were there in July and it was HOT (like hitting 100 degrees hot) and WINDY. So it actually wasn’t the most pleasurable boondocking experience. 😬 But the sunsets were gorgeous! The short proximity to the entrance of Badlands National Park, the short drive off of I-90 and the good road in make it a great place to boondock, especially for first time RVers or first time boondockers. Heads up: it’s heavily trafficked and does get crowded really quickly. (This video was taken after everyone had left in the morning on a weekday, but 5 pm rolls around and it gets packed quickly and people don’t stop coming in until 11pm ish) Keep an eye out for severe thunderstorms in the summer. ✨Please make sure to be a respectful camper, leave no trace, do your part to leave it better than you found it and stay on designated roads. Even though we are minimalists, here’s what we use to help organize our clothing: Containers/Packing cubes: We use small containers in our upper cabinets to separate socks, undies, shorts etc… This helps keep everything organized and in place during travel. Thin hangers: We use inexpensive thin velvet hangers (we grabbed ours from Amazon, link in bio) in our closets to help maximize space! They really do work and the velvet helps keep your clothes in place while in travel. Hanging shoe organizer (not shown): I cut up a hanging shoe organizer and hung it up on one side of our closets and we keep beanies, hats, tank tops etc in them. But in all seriousness, we STILL have the normal day to day responsibilities that everyone else has even though we live in an RV. We’ve seen a lot of comments on social media, forums and groups where people question full-time RVers day to day life because they see it as a 24/7 vacation. Like because we live in an RV we don’t have responsibilities, schedules, family needs etc. I understand RV and nomad life has been glamorized to the max, but trust us, it is definitely not a 24/7 vacation. Cresting at 12,183 feet, Trail Ridge Road is a must drive 🥹🏔 This famous road is the highest continuously paved road in North America and it feels like you are driving on a tundra in a far far away land. Even though the views are spectacular, it’s not for the faint of heart. This road is 48 miles in length and takes you from the west side of Rocky Mountain National Park to the east side while traveling along sheer cliffs. 📝Some things to note about Trail Ridge Road: • A valid park pass is needed (and timed entry reservations) to drive this road between 9 am -3 pm. • Trail Ridge Road tends to open around the very end of May and beginning of June and tends to close at the end of October. All dependent on snow and road conditions. • It is a two lane road with a generally less than 5% and never exceeding 7% grade. We saw people pulling travel trailers and RVs take this road, but I would recommend doing research and being confident in your driving skills before taking this road with anything large. This is a “must-do” drive in the United States and we highly recommend adding this to your bucket list! RV life & severe weather. It’s not talked about much but it should be. Tanner and I grew up in Oklahoma, the land of severe weather, tornadoes and hail so we weren’t new to it but we were new to the severity of damage severe weather can cause to an Airstream. Other RVs (that aren’t thin aluminum metal) aren’t going to be susceptible to the damage hail causes as much as an Airstream. Hail is an Airstreams worst nightmare! But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be weather aware when RVing. We highly recommend checking forecasts regularly, especially in the summer months, to make sure there isn’t any predicted severe weather in the area. Due to the trauma we’ve experienced, we choose to move and leave the area when there is severe weather/hail predicted in the forecast. We understand moving isn’t feasible for everyone so here are some tips for severe weather and RVing: 1. Check local forecasts regularly. If you have service, use an app like MyRadar to stay on top of changing weather. It’s also good to have an emergency weather radio as well. 2. If strong wind is predicted make sure to secure your awning and stow away outdoor gear because they may become projectiles. If possible, pull in your slides and position your RV to face into the wind. 3. If there has been a national weather service warning, evacuate your RV, follow instructions and find the nearest storm shelter or brick and mortar campground bathroom. When we had our solar system installed by @airstream_nuts_and_bolts we had him also a 40 amp DC - DC charger. This allows the truck to send 12V power into the DC charger where it gets turned into 14V. This roughly sends over 550 watts to our lithium batteries charging them while we drive in between boondocking spots! It also allows us to run our 3 way- fridge on electric while we drive! Plenty of storage in our bedroom for all of our clothes. 🫶 We chose this layout specifically for the wardrobes. We ordered our Airstream in 2016 and wanted the wardrobes to maximize our clothing storage. We had never lived or even RV’ed before so we weren’t sure what to expect. We love our bedroom layout and there is more than enough storage. We’ve also found that because of the wardrobes and the extra “insulation” it provides, our bedroom stays cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter! We can’t complain though, because we often go to free dump stations so we are thankful for them. We’ve found that driving onto blocks when the dump station is unlevel gets us level. Which allows us to drain our tanks properly and get everything out!
